Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between an estimate and an invoice?
An estimate is a proposed price before work begins; an invoice is a bill for completed work. You can convert any estimate to an invoice once the scope is agreed upon.
Should I include contingency in my estimate?
Yes -- 5-10% is standard for known-scope work, 15-20% for renovation or unknown conditions. Contingency protects you from unexpected costs without inflating every line item.
How do I convert an estimate to an invoice?
Open a saved estimate and click "Convert to Invoice." A new invoice is created with the same line items and client info. The original estimate is preserved.
What should I include in the scope of work?
Describe all work included, materials, timelines, and any assumptions. The more specific your scope, the fewer disputes later. Use the exclusions field to clearly state what is not covered.
