What we collect

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to collect anonymized usage data including page views, session duration, and approximate geographic location. This data is aggregated and does not identify individual users.

Newsletter signup

When you subscribe to the Buildermuse newsletter, we collect your email address and any topic or frequency preferences you select. This data is used only to send the newsletter you requested and is stored in our email service provider. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter email.

Contractor directory submissions

When you submit a contractor listing via our submission form, we collect: business name, contact name, email address, phone number, business address, trade type, service area, and any logo or image you upload. This data is used to populate and maintain your directory listing on Buildermuse.

Cookies

Google Analytics sets cookies on your browser to identify unique sessions. These cookies do not contain personally identifiable information. You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time.

Data processors

We use the following third-party services that process data on our behalf:

• Netlify — hosts this site and processes form submissions (newsletter and contractor forms). Netlify stores form submission data on our behalf.
• Google Analytics (Google LLC) — processes anonymized usage data as described above.

No other tracking scripts, ad networks, or data brokers are used on this site.

We do not sell your data

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes. We do not participate in affiliate programs and do not earn commissions on products or services mentioned in our reporting.

Data deletion requests

To request deletion of your data — including newsletter subscriptions, contractor listing information, or any form submissions — email privacy@buildermuse.com with your name and a description of the data you'd like removed. We will process requests within 30 days.

Directory Data Sourcing

Contractor and supplier listings are sourced from public business registries including Google Places, SAM.gov Entity Management, and curated industry databases. Only public business data is published: company name, business address, general phone number, and website. No personal contact information — individual names, personal emails, or direct-dial numbers — is collected or published.

Claim & Verification Process

Business owners can claim and verify their listings through a unique verification link. Information submitted through the claim process (email, description, certifications) is used solely for listing verification and display. Claimed email addresses are not shared, sold, or used for marketing without explicit consent.

Unsubscribe & Removal

Any business can request removal from the directory by using the unsubscribe link on their listing page or by contacting us at privacy@buildermuse.com. Removal requests are processed within 48 hours.

Browser Storage (localStorage)

Calculator results, business profiles, and document drafts are stored locally in your browser using localStorage. No user data from tools is transmitted to any server. Clearing your browser data removes all saved tool data permanently.

How We Source Directory Listings

Contractor and supplier listings on Buildermuse are compiled from publicly available sources including Google Places business listings, SAM.gov federal entity registrations, state business registries, and manually curated industry databases. We only collect and publish public business information — company name, general business phone number, business address, and website URL. We do not scrape, purchase, or otherwise obtain private or personal contact data.

Email Contact for Verification

In the course of verifying and enriching directory listings, we may collect publicly listed business email addresses — specifically generic addresses such as info@, contact@, sales@, hello@, office@, and admin@ — from company websites. We do not collect personal email addresses (e.g., firstname.lastname@domain.com). Business emails are used solely for listing verification, claim notifications, and directory-related communications.

How to Claim or Update a Listing

Business owners and authorized representatives can claim their listing through the unique claim link on their supplier profile page, or by visiting /suppliers/claim/. The claim process verifies ownership and allows you to add a business description, upload a logo, display certifications, and receive a verified badge. You can also submit updates or corrections to your listing at any time through the claim portal.

How to Opt Out

Any business may request removal from the Buildermuse directory at any time. You can opt out by clicking the unsubscribe link on your listing page, by emailing privacy@buildermuse.com, or by using the /unsubscribe page. We process removal requests within 7 business days. Removal is permanent unless you request re-listing.

Data Retention

Directory listings are retained for as long as the business appears to be operational based on public records. If a business closes, is dissolved, or its public records are removed, we will remove the listing during our next data refresh cycle. Listings are also removed promptly upon request as described in the opt-out section above. Claim verification data (email address used to claim) is retained for the duration of the claimed listing and deleted within 30 days of listing removal.

Third-Party Processors

In addition to the processors listed in the Data Processors section above, we use or plan to use the following services:

• Netlify — hosts this site, processes form submissions (newsletter, contractor, and claim forms), and stores submission data on our behalf.
• Resend (planned) — transactional email delivery for claim notifications, verification emails, and directory-related communications. Resend processes email addresses and message content on our behalf and does not use this data for its own purposes.

We may update this policy as our data practices change. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
