Where does Buildermuse get its data?

All data comes from government sources or verified industry datasets. Material prices use the BLS Producer Price Index and FRED API. Federal bids come from the SAM.gov API. State dashboards use USAspending.gov for contract awards, BLS QCEW for employment data, and BLS OES for wages. The contractor directory uses the Google Places API. Every data point on the site cites its source.

How often is data updated?

Bids are refreshed daily from SAM.gov. Material prices are updated monthly (BLS PPI publishes on a monthly schedule). State dashboard data is updated quarterly as BLS QCEW and USAspending data becomes available. The contractor directory is refreshed monthly via Google Places.

Are the contractors verified?

Contractors in our directory meet three thresholds sourced from Google Places: a minimum 4.0-star Google rating, at least 10 verified Google reviews, and confirmed operational status. We do not independently verify licenses, insurance, bonding, or certifications. Always verify credentials directly with the contractor before hiring.

Who writes the articles?

Buildermuse has four editorial voices with combined 65 years of field experience: Mike Callahan (20-year GC), Sarah Torres (licensed electrician and safety consultant), Danny Reeves (master plumber and shop owner), and Lisa Chen (PE/PMP civil engineer). All articles cite government data sources — BLS, Census Bureau, OSHA, NAHB, AGC, ENR.
